Veterinary Surgeons

The Partners

The five Partners are veterinary surgeons who collectively own and run the Practice.

Graham Richmond BVetMed MRCVS

Graham qualified from The Royal Veterinary College in 1977 and joined the practice in August of that year.  He has undertaken numerous further education courses including orthopaedic, ultrasound and recently laparoscopic surgery.  Grahams main interest is surgery, especially orthopaedics and he is one of the main orthopaedic surgeons within the practice.  Graham spends most of his time working at our Veterinary Hospital but also holds clinics at our Stoke Road branch.

Philip Hanlon BVSc (Sydney) MRCVS

Philip qualified in Sydney in 1981.  He started off working in rural practices in his homeland before he came to England on a cattle ship with 2000 cows (via South Korea) to “do Europe”.  He joined the practice in December 1983 and eventually decided to make his stay permanent.  Philip became a partner in 1989.  He has a strong interest in ophthalmology and has attended numerous eye courses including a two year structured ophthalmology course.  He has enrolled for the RCVS Certificate in Ophthalmology and is currently aiming to sit the examinations in the next few years.  He spends much of his time running our Stony Stratford Branch but operates weekly at our main Hospital.

Philip Kilkenny BVSc MRCVS

Our “other” Philip qualified from Liverpool University in 1992.  He originally spent time with us whilst still at school and continued to “see practice” here to gain practical experience whilst training.  Upon graduating he joined the practice as a veterinary surgeon becoming a partner in 1995. Amongst other postgraduate training, Philip has undertaken a two year modular course in his particular interest, small animal medicine.  He shares his time between our Veterinary Hospital and our Stony Stratford branch.

Debbie Kilkenny BVSc MRCVS

Debbie qualified with Philip from Liverpool University in 1992 having also spent much of her University holidays with us.  Her initial employment was in a mixed small animal and equine practice in Southend where she worked for 18 months.  Debbie joined this practice as a veterinary surgeon in December 1993 before becoming a partner at the same time as Philip in 1995.  She has a specific interest in reptiles.  She shares her time between our Veterinary Hospital and our Willen branch.

Rory Burke BVetMed CertSAS MRCVS

Rory qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in the summer of 1996 and joined the practice in September of that year.  He has attended many surgical and radiology courses including two year structured modular courses in both subjects.  Rory achieved the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery in 2005 after several years of study involving both orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.  Like Graham, he has a particular interest in orthopaedics and together they perform most orthopaedic procedures within the practice.  Rory joined the partnership in July 2006.  He works mostly at our Hospital and Stony Stratford branch.

These are the veterinary surgeons employed by the practice.

Sonia Moulton BVSc MRCVS

Sonia graduated with Philip and Debbie from Liverpool University in 1992.  She initially worked in Peterborough for 3 years before moving to our practice in October 1995.  Sonia is interested in small animal medicine (particularly feline) and soft tissue surgery having attended courses on both subjects.  Sonia works at our Willen branch and the main Hospital.

Lisa Gillett BVSc MRCVS

Lisa qualified from Bristol University in 1997.  She initially joined the practice as part of our Emergency out of hour’s staff in Spring 1999 for six months.  When the new Hospital opened in October 1999, Lisa took up the position of running our Stoke Road branch surgery.  She has a keen interest in “Small Furries” and regularly attends rabbit courses.  When she is not working at Stoke Road, she spends time operating and consulting at our Hospital.

Andre Cilliers BVSc (Pretoria) GPCert(SAM) MRCVS

Andre initially joined us as a locum in November 2002 after recently qualifying from the University of Pretoria.   Andre completed a two year modular course in medicine and passed the ESPVS General Practice Medicine Certificate in the summer of 2006.  He shares his work mostly between the Veterinary Hospital and our Whaddon Way branch surgery.

Beckie Gilbert MA VetMB MRCVS

Beckie graduated from Cambridge University in 2002.  After having spent two years in a mixed practice in St Neots she joined our team in November 2004.  She holds a strong interest in small animal medicine and has spent much time attending courses in this subject.  Beckie is currently on maternity leave but will be starting back with us part-time in September.

Heather Smith MA VetMB CertVD MRCVS

Heather joined us in September 2006 already having a keen interest in skin cases.  She qualified from Cambridge University in 1998 and has gained experience in several different veterinary practices.  Heather passed the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology in 2008 and is keen to see pets with skin problems.  She shares her time between our Stoke Road surgery and our Veterinary Hospital.

Steve Bonthorne BVSc (Sydney) MRCVS

Steve qualified at the University of Sydney in 1992 and came to England the following year.  Steve joined us in October 2007 having gained much experience working in other small animal practices.  He has a particular interest in medical cases.  Steve works at Walnut Tree and Stony Stratford.

Hannah Flatt BVetMed MRCVS

Hannah joined our practice in April 2008 having spent much of the previous year working at a clinic in Northampton.  She qualified in July 2007 from the Royal Veterinary College.  Hannah has a keen interest in medical and skin cases.  She mostly works at our Willen branch and Hospital at Walnut Tree.

Doug Brain MA VetMB MRCVS

Doug joined us in August 2008 having qualified from Cambridge in 2004.  He has previously worked with Hannah at a clinic in Northampton where he was briefly in charge.  He has also worked in India and several other practices throughout England.

Susan Montgomery BVetMed MRCVS

Susan joined us in September from a mixed veterinary practice in Devon.  Susan qualified in 2006 from The Royal Veterinary College.  Susan joined us initially to cover the maternity leave of Beckie but her position has now become full-time.  She works mostly at our Walnut Tree, Whaddon Way and Stoke Road surgeries.

Saturday Veterinary Surgeons

These veterinary surgeons work only on Saturdays.

Margaret Pateman MA VetMB MRCVS

Margaret qualified from Cambridge University in 1966.  She initially joined us to help with busy Saturday morning surgeries.  Margaret is usually seen working on Saturday mornings at our Walnut Tree Hospital.  She has a keen interest in “small furry” and wildlife medicine- often taking hedgehogs home with her to nurse better.

Andrew Jerome BVetMed MRCVS

Andrew qualified in 1968 from the Royal Veterinary College.  He currently works part-time for a variety of practices around England and helps us by holding surgeries at our Hospital on alternate Saturdays.
