Vaccinations are a very important way to prevent infections. They work by exposing the body to a harmless part or version of the infection causing the body to make an immune repsonse to it. If the body then encounters the true illness, it is ready to put up a natural defence against the infection.
There are two rabbit diseases that we recommend vaccinating pets against. These are Myxomatosis and Haemorrhagic Viral Disease (HVD).
Both diseases are spread by biting insects and fleas meaning that even rabbits kept indoors could be at risk of becoming infected.
It is recommended that the myxomatosis vaccine be administered every 6 months in areas where infected rabbits are seen. Rabbit vaccinations can be started from 6 weeks of age.
The HVD vaccine requires an annual booster.
The vaccinations cannot be administered together on the same day and we recommend a gap of 2 weeks between the injections.
We offer a discounted price for owners wishing to have both vaccinations administered providing they are paid for at the time of the first appointment.
