Yes. We are happy to refer suitable cases to veterinary specialists.
We accept that some complex cases are better treated at Specialist centres where the veterinary surgeons have access to advanced facilities (such as MRI scanners and CT scans) as well as having greater experience in specific fields of work.
Almost all approved veterinary specialists hold Diplomas awarded by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the European College of Veterinary Surgeons or the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Veterinary surgeons who hold Certificates awarded by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons have undertaken post-graduate study and examinations to be able to claim veterinary competence in their subject.
There are some current subjects, the main one being Oncology (cancer patients) where no Certificates or Diplomas are currently awarded. Veterinary surgeons who have advanced knowledge in oncology usually hold a Masters degree in clinical oncology (MSc (Clin Onc)).
