Veterinary Surgeons

To work as a veterinary surgeon in the United Kingdom a person must hold a veterinary degree or qualification that is recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and all of them must be registered members of the college. Veterinary surgeons may be partners, consultants or associates. Some veterinary surgeons also hold post-graduate qualifications.
Click here for explanations of the different Veterinary Qualifications held.
The five Partners are veterinary surgeons who have a financial stake in the business and are responsible for the overall running of the practice. Collectively they own the veterinary business. Most of their time however is spent performing normal veterinary surgeon duties.
Graham Richmond BVetMed MRCVS
Graham
qualified from The Royal Veterinary College in 1977 and joined the
practice in August of that year. He has undertaken numerous further
education courses including orthopaedic, ultrasound and recently
laparoscopic surgery. Grahams main interest is surgery, especially orthopaedics and he is one of
the main orthopaedic surgeons within the practice. Graham spends most of
his time working at our Veterinary Hospital but also holds clinics at our
branches at Stoke Road and occasionally Willen.
Philip Hanlon BVSc (Sydney) MRCVS
Philip
qualified in Sydney in 1981. He started off working in rural practices
in his homeland before he came to England on a cattle ship with 2000 cows
(via South Korea) to “do Europe”. He joined the practice in December
1983 and eventually decided to make his stay permanent. Philip became
a partner in 1989. He has a strong interest in ophthalmology and has
attended numerous eye courses including a two year structured ophthalmology

year modular course in his particular interest, small animal medicine. He
shares his time between our Veterinary Hospital and our Stony Stratford
branch.

spent much of her University holidays with us. Her initial employment was
in a mixed small animal and equine practice in Southend where she worked for
18 months. Debbie joined this practice as a veterinary surgeon in December

in both subjects. Rory achieved the
RCVS

in 2005 after several years of study involving both orthopaedic and soft
tissue surgery. Like Graham, he has a particular
interest in orthopaedics and together they perform most orthopaedic
procedures within the practice. Rory joined the partnership in July 2006.
He works mostly at our Hospital and Stony Stratford branch.

into partnership to form Fraser, Pitman and Snook at our Stoke Road premises
which are still used as one of our branch surgeries. Peter was responsible
for building up the small animal side of the practice and setting up new

most of his time at our Whaddon Way surgery. He occasionally holds
afternoon clinics at our Veterinary Hospital.

Andrew qualified in 1968 from the Royal Veterinary College. He currently works part-time for a variety of practices around England and helps us by holding surgeries at our Hospital on alternate Saturdays.
All our other veterinary surgeons are associates, (i.e. employees) of the practice. We currently have eight associates who are all fully qualified veterinary surgeons, some working full-time, others just doing occasional hours. Every veterinary practice must be able to provide a 24 hour emergency service for every day of the year. We currently employ dedicated out of hours veterinary surgeons to keep our hospital running 24/7.
